How to use Claude Motion

Two routes: the built-in feature if your workspace has it, and a coding-agent route that works on every plan.

What Claude Motion is

Motion is a beta feature Anthropic launched on 8 October 2026 alongside Dashboards. You describe an explainer, Claude writes the animation as code (text, charts, shapes and images you supply), and you can change text, numbers and timing before exporting an MP4. It does not generate footage or synthetic presenters.

Route 1: the built-in feature (Team and Enterprise)

  1. Check your plan. At launch Motion was reported as available to Team and Enterprise workspaces only, not Free, Pro or Max.
  2. On Enterprise, an admin has to switch it on in organisation settings under Artifacts. On Team it was reported as on by default.
  3. Start a chat, attach your document and ask for a motion explainer. Say how long it should be and who it is for.
  4. Edit the result in place, then export the MP4.
Plan rules change during a beta. If you do not see Motion, check Anthropic's pricing and release notes before assuming something is broken.

Route 2: any plan, with a coding agent

Motion works because the animation is code. A coding agent can write that same kind of code on your computer, and an open-source renderer turns it into video. That is what MotionKit sets up.

  1. Have an agent. Claude Code comes with Pro and Max. On the Free plan, use Codex or Cursor.
  2. Install Node.js 22+ and FFmpeg. On macOS: brew install node ffmpeg.
  3. Install the pack. Get a licence, then run:
npx -y motionkit-skills@latest setup
  1. Hand over a document. In your agent: “Turn docs/q3-review.md into a 45-second motion video.”
  2. Approve the storyboard. You get a table of scenes with the on-screen sentence and where each number came from.
  3. Preview and edit. The agent opens a local preview with a timeline. Ask for changes in plain words or drag clips yourself.
  4. Render. Say “render it” and you get an MP4 in the project folder.
